4. PERFORMANCE CATEGORIES
Solo Vocal (incl with accompaniment) Entrants must perform individually a vocal musical work, either self accompanied (e.g. on guitar, keyboard, a-capella or with backing track), or with an accompanist. Note, this does not include duos where both performers are considered a combined act. Here, accompaniment is to support the solo performer. Musical work chosen must contain lyrics and strictly no explicit lyrics. SHINE09 reserves the right to refuse entry if music works chosen are not considered appropriate for the event. Group Vocal (incl duos and bands) Entrants must be a combined act of 2 - 6 performers, who comprise the total musical act (either a-capella, or with instruments), performing a vocal musical work. Dance (incl solo, duo, group) Entrants may be solo, duo or group up to 6 dancers performing to backing track. Musical work, if contains lyrics must strictly contain no explicit lyrics. SHINE09 reserves the right to refuse entry if music works chosen are not considered appropriate for the event.
Original Works (own song - performed as you choose) Entrants must be individuals, and perform their own original musical work, either solo or with accompanying musicians (must be arranged by the songwriter). Please note that only the songwriter and his/her performance execution will be assessed as an entrant (i.e. it is the song itself which is being assessed, not so much the performance), however the songwriter may choose to have the musical work performed with accompanying full band if they consider a band performance more appropriate for their song . Musical work, if contains lyrics must strictly contain no explicit lyrics. SHINE09 reserves the right to refuse entry if music works chosen are not considered appropriate for the event.
Instrumental (no vocal, incl solo, duo, group) Entrant may be 1 – 6 performers, performing a chosen musical work without lyrics. Instruments can be any combination of classical or contemporary instruments and performance will be assessed on excellence in execution of musical work.
